Get a feel for Japan’s ancient culture and lifestyles with a visit to one of the country’s historic towns. 🇯🇵 Nagano Prefecture is perhaps home to the best preserved portion of the Nakasendo Highway, (an ancient, mountainous road that connected Tokyo and Kyoto during the Edo period between early 1600s until the late 1800s). These towns traditionally provided accommodation for merchants, samurai and wandering monks. Nowadays these beautifully-preserved ‘post towns’ give glimpse to Japan as it was in the past.
