🇹🇿 HAKUNA MATATA 🇹🇿
If you are looking for a destination suitable for both budget and high end wallets then Zanzibar is a great option.
🇹🇿 UNGUJA
The two largest islands are called Unguja (which most people refer to as Zanzibar) and Pemba. Kendwa and Nungwi in the North of Unguja have plenty of big hotels offering all-inclusive-service. If you prefer more peace and quiet then the East and South coast is your best bet. Paje welcomes kite surfers from all around the world with a decent “backpacker” scene and delicious seafood restaurants on the beach. If you love beach clubs head to Kaefunk Beach in Michamvi. Djs are spinning their ITunes tracks while acrobats are performing a spectacular show (daily at around 17:00). Sunset guaranteed! From Stonetown you can take the ferries to Dar es Salaam (Mainland Tanzania) or to the neighbouring island of Pemba. Before you take the boat just make sure to check out Stonetown which consists of picturesque, old streets, shops and decorative doors. Shoki Shoki House has some newly renovated rooms for 30-50$/night. For the big spenders among you: Emerson Spice Hotel has a well decorated vintage-style rooms and a rooftop view over the city. If you are on a budget: Head to the nightmarket for some “Urojo” and Dreamer’s Island – a floating restaurant built from wood 100 meters off the beach.
🇹🇿 PEMBA
Pemba is a 4 hours ferry ride from Stonetown. The pier is located in Mkoani where you can spend a few nights in the South African run B&B “Lala Lodge”. This island is very different to Unguja as tourism fortunately hasn’t taken off yet. To keep it that way information on the island will only be communicated via PM on facebook (exithamster).
🇹🇿 MIKUMI
Mikumi can be reached within 8-10 hours from Stonetown via ferry and bus. It is one of the closest national parks to Zanzibar and not as pricey as Serengeti. Tan Swiss Lodge is a good choice and offers a mix of poolside drinks, camping experience, European cuisine and Safari adventure.
Sam Kalina Tours (+255765765057 – located within Tan Swiss Lodge) is able to arrange transportation around the national park and back to Stonetown on Unguja.
Enjoy the impressions we have collected during our 3-months-stay in 2022.
Special THANKS to Jackie for filming and editing this masterpiece (on a Macbook 2015!)
