The plum blossom, or “ume” in Japanese, originated from China, and is often referred to as a symbol for health, hope and renewal. They can bloom as early as late January and last until the first few days of March. The plum blossoms at Kitano Shrine in Tokyo’s Meguro Ward are currently in full bloom. See some of the best ume spots on The Japan Times online. (@miura.yoshiaki photos)
