Yamakasa is BACK! The highlight of the festival kicks off at exactly 4:59 am on July 15 when thousands of men from seven districts run through the streets carrying decorative one-ton floats. And on this first of several Yamakasa live streams we’ll visit several of the kazariyama, the decorative floats. In the past, Yamakasa floats were paraded around the city, competing with each other in terms of gorgeousness. Every year, skilled artisans make them by choosing a theme for the front, and the back, based on historical figures or subjects considered good luck. This year, 13 decorative Yamakasa floats will be displayed around the city.
