  1. I'm in a similar situation. I recently (3 months ago) got engaged and my fiance lives in Japan. I'm from Texas, USA and am trying my hardest to figure out how to get there. I can't get the embassy to reply to me at all which is driving me nuts. I've called them 5 different times and sent emails to 2 different email addresses.

I like the idea of writing a letter to explain our relationship (each of us can do it).

I know as of June 1st if you're engaged to somebody in Japan, you're allowed to go. I think here they want your itinerary so I'm going to buy a plane ticket and book a place in Japan for us to stay and then drive to the embassy (3 hours away) to do everything I can to get the visa application approved.

    I have…
    Passport (I'll make photo copies)
    ID (i'll make a copy)
Birth certificate (I have certified copies)
    Visa application
    Her invitation application
I'm going to have her sign the covid waiver
We'll both write a letter explaining our relationship and engagement

Can you think of anything I'm missing?

Thank you guys for uploading the video! I hope your trip goes well!

  2. th.ank you that was great. my wife japnese and myself american have been married over 30 years want to go in october to stay for a while. hope its as easy as that for us. it's been a great ride people told us that theses relationships can be difficult i guess they never really deeply loved anyone before. any relationship between more than yourself can have rough spots. it's great go for it. your a good looking couple an you look like your loving life together.

  3. Thank you for the great video! Happy to see how happy you guys were! Just a quick question… If you don't mind answering this: are you guys married or having a civil partnership (like a de facto partnership)? I am currently living in Ireland and I and my boyfriend (with his Irish passport/we are not married nor in a civil partnership) are trying to go to Japan to see my family. I went through the website of the Japanese MoFA but I could not get the idea who can really be eligible to get this Visa… Any information would be appreciated!

  4. What if I am already married to a non Japanese person with 3 kids? Is it a wedding invitation or funeral the only solution??? 😭

  5. So, my girlfriend is living in Japan. We are not married yet, but we are planning to do so within the next months. Would she be able to apply for a visa for me? Do you maybe have a link to the form she needs to fill out? That you very much for the informative video 🙂

  6. This is a helpful video. If Japan doesn't fully open up by next year I might have to ask one of my Japanese friends to invite me. 😃

  7. I have two Japanese friends living in Sakai (near Osaka) who had their child a few months before the pandemic and was unable to visit.
Could they provide an invitation so that I could apply for a short-term stay visa?
I live in Switzerland and am Swiss, FYI.
Thanks in advance, if you read this question!

  8. Congratulations. I have also recently received my visa and I will be visiting Japan in August. My next step is to go for my pre departure PCR test. 🙂

  9. Classic japan.
Japanese can travel in and out of japan easily with a few regulations and these are the real culprits in japan's domestic covid problem, BUT japan tries to shamelessly blame non-japanese for their their own home-grown issue.
    Classic. Just pure classic japanese.
Always blame non-japanese for a japanese created problem.
    This ALWAYS happens.
    Shameless. Utterly shameless.

  10. I’m going to be getting a tourist Visa for Japan. I’m still unsure about how the guided tours will work.
