The 18th edition of the Asian Games, the region’s biggest sporting extravaganza, began on Aug. 18 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. The Indonesian capital last staged the continental sporting extravaganza in 1962. Japan has sent some of its top athletes to the event and has won over 50 gold medals so far.
