Japan’s borders remain closed yet cases in Japan are now leading world rankings. Now that other countries are theoretically safer than Japan, WILL THINGS CHANGE?

In today’s video we will break down the fact that even though Japan is now topping world rankings when it comes to covid cases, things are seemingly quite positive. Japan continues to approach this wave differently, but will this lead to positive news? How long will we need to wait for Japan’s borders to reopen to tourism?

  1. Japan has always been ahead of the world with everything EXCEPT covid 🤦🏻‍♂️

  2. 鮭のにぎりさん、It will be soon now. Soon. If not by October, I’ll do another $49.99 superchat.

  3. I had to re-schedule my August trip to March next year. I'm really hoping by then it opens, so I'll take any good news to put my mind at ease.

  4. I spent the first two years of COVID in the US (specifically Southern California) and was lucky to never contract it. After moving to Japan at the end of March and four months into living here, I got COVID. I let my guard down a little, thinking Japan was safer than other places in the world. Thankfully it was about as serious as a sinus infection for me, so I'm doing fine.

  5. Nethan tell me one thing? The vaccine that have been used by Japnese govt. In their country Either is not a affected vaccine or they use less affected vaccine? As you look the other side the whole world condition is good day by day and if we look at the Japan the condition is going to be bad day by day. What is the reason behind this situation? Can you explain??

  6. In order for Japan to fully open to individual tourism, they have to do a few things first. Cancel the current entry cap completely, and visa exemptions to the Blue countries first, oh and no PCR test taken 72 hours before trip, or else it's not called FULL opening.

  7. Covid is something we have to live with
Japan needs to move on before they miss out on all the foreigners like Korea has

  8. It's more like Japan's, China's, North Korea's, and Singapore's freedom control is more western-phobic than xenophobic.

  9. 🍣 great summary Nathan I was shocked about the cases over there , I was expecting it to stay low seeing as they are closed , doesn't take much for it to spread with the latest variant , we have really high numbers here too but life is totally normal

  10. The country should be well on their way to herd immunity with the vaccine rollout & cases on the rise.

  11. I just think it kinda sucks that japan let's people in there country go anywhere, but other countries can't visit japan 😢

  12. In all reality, for any non-japanese's safety, it's better for any non-japanese to not come to japan so the japanese don't infect you.

  13. .Hi, as I told you before I would keep you posted if I madeit back to Japan. Well, we finally made it, after 3 years we made it back to Takamatsu (Kagawa). We landed in Kansai and it was quite the experience. It fent like entering a mortal inffectious disease center, with checkpoint after checkpoiunt. Fortunately I spent a lot of time beforehand downloading the My SOS app and uploading all required documents. This meant that we were actually out the airport in about 30 minutes (with suitcases). The best way to describe the attitude towards covid in Japan is to look at your own country about 1 year ago. Everyone (almost) wears their mask EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME. This is funny to me, seeing people on their bycicle, whith nobody around, wearing a mask. The main differencce would be the attitude towards people who do not want to wear a mask (and there are a few). nobody cares… I guess people are scared, but this is understandable as the media keeps reporting on it the way my home country used to last year (numbers, numbers, numbers…). It is impoertant to note that of all the hospitalisations, quite a few have underlying conditions and are entering the hospital for unrelated issues, and once there, found covid positive. As for the tourists; not a lot of caucasions, but quite a few Asian toursists. Also, having been used to not wearing the mask anymore, I must confess I sometimes forget to wear it but I have never been looked at weirdly or commented at. Daily, it actually feel as if most people are happy to see my gaijin face here, as it gives them, perhaps, a sense of normality, to see a tourist here. Finally, as I know you will ask: I am not really a toursit (eventhough I like to behave as one; a polite one though!) as my wife and daughter are japanese, so I am here on a family Visa. Hope this helps a bit. Obviously, as a fan of your channel, feel free to ask me any questions, should you have any. Cheers. Ilan

  14. Hi Nathan. Good to see you. Thank you for your fantastic videos from Gibraltar. I think the UK is now expecting another wave of the virus! Thank you for all your hard work! Kind wishes. Joan Nagase.

  15. 🍣I have a trip planned Sept 3 and really hope I get to visit Japan but do not know with this new wave but hopeful as they have not gone backwards yet with more restrictions

  16. 🍣 Hi Monkey Ninja, I would like to know your recommendation. I have a booking in October, do I wait for good news or rebooking for next year?

  17. I think one reason our rates are going down in the US is they are not testing as aggressively as they used to. Our media has lost interest in it and has moved on to other things. I heard a rumor that Japan is giving out gift cards to citizens who go and get tests done. Naturally, this would cause your reported rates to suddenly go up.🤔

  18. These are my views as a resident and maybe you will not agree with them.

We hear the views of the government how we need to carry on and get on with normal life. However when you look the media everyday, we are hearing about hospitals not being able to cope, testing is being limited as there is a shortage of PCR and Antigen tests and also the medicines for treating people who are positive. Vaccinations are being promoted but not always easy to get, especially the 4th booster. My wife is a visitor nurse and she visits people who cannot get to the hospitals. She and her fellow nurses are also having to visit covid patients now. Her hospital cannot get no information about when the 4th shot will be available to them. That a hell of a strain being put on the people who will look after us whatever our illness.

My point of all this is, if we have problems caring for residents at times like this, how can we look after the needs of an influx of tourists if they infected here. Once infections decease again the government needs to come up with plans and resources to take care of independent tourists if they become infected. At this time an illness by law can only be confirmed by a doctor for the patient to get treatment.

Locally we are not a main tourist destination, we do get day visitors and local coach trips. Over the last 2 weeks these have reduced and the town has been like a ghost town.

When the borders are finally open, we owe it to the tourist to be prepared with information and the resources on how they can get help if they catch covid here. 🍣

  19. Didn't catch covid till early this month, but now I'm back to my normal self- swimming many laps and exercising as per normal. 🍣I don't think this current variant is as harmful especially for those already vaccinated.

  20. Hi everyone. I thought bi saw a recent comment about the possibility of Japan reopening to individual tourists in September. Can anyone kindly clarify this. Thanks. Joan Nagase
