Asiatic black bears are the largest mammal found on 3 of Japan’s major islands: Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku. @picchio_karuizawa in the town of Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture has been committed to bear management and conservation for over 20 years. A great way to see them in the wild is on an eco-tour. Hike to various observation points and see the bears from a safe distance. Led by bear specialists you will gain insight into the movements of the bears using their tracking data. Tours operate from the middle of July to the beginning of September.
