This walking tour of Berlin City, Germany, shows the popular and busy Hackescher Markt and Hackescher Höfe on a warm summer day. Berlin is the capital and largest city of Germany.
Hackescher Markt is the creative center between Friedrichstraße and Alexanderplatz. With small fashion and shoe stores, designer labels and flagship stores of well-known brands, the area at the southern end of Rosenthaler Straße offers attractive shopping opportunities. Tourists and Berliners alike like to come here to stroll through the streets around the area, sit in trendy cafés and purchase a design object or two fresh from the backyard workshop. In my opinion, this place is one of the best areas of Berlin. Starting in the mid-1990s, the historic Hackesche Höfe were extensively renovated and filled with new life. Germany’s largest enclosed courtyard area now once again houses a diverse mix of workshops, fashion, design and jewelry, art and culture, and gastronomy in its listed commercial courtyards. Hackescher Markt is a real highlight of city life in the Mitte neighbourhood of Berlin, with art galleries and an Old Town side that are worth seeing. What’s more, the spot continues to be a popular place for local art and graffiti, and remains a landmark for impressive architecture.
