The tsunami in Chiba; a recap

This is a follow-up to three tsunami videos I posted in March 2011, which have been seen by nearly a million people. This is a kind of rough back story, hurriedly put together (as you will see). We were at the lower end of the tsunami, but it was still strong enough to overturn boats and carry them out to sea and destroy a big harbor wall. Fifteen kilometers up the road a couple of houses were destroyed and 40 km up the road, 17 people were killed. The laughter you can hear in the original videos is nervous laughter. Sitting outside my friend’s house, we had no idea what was happening up north. It wasn’t until the following day that we knew how bad it was. Two years later, I sold my house and moved to the top of a mountain. Of course, earthquakes can make mountains fall down….
The video is pretty amateurish. My camera at the time was not that great and the battery died too soon. But I hope this has some value as a record of how things were in Chiba, even if we were 400 km from the epicenter of the earthquake.
