Hiraizumi – UNESCO World Heritage Site

Hiraizumi is an unusual and fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site in Japan. Located north of Tokyo, Hiraizumi is a collection of shrines, temples and gardens associated with “pure land” Buddhism – a teaching around the belief that the mortal world will always be corrupt, and that one should strive for rebirth in a higher plane, a Pure Land. The highlight here is the beautiful Motsu-ji with its beautiful lake, and Chosun-ji with the incredible golden Konjiki-do.
