The importance of biodiversity to the tourism industry

Biodiversity is vital for tourism. It contributes significantly to the attractiveness and quality of a destination, and in many cases builds the foundation for the tourism industry. Natural sites and wildlife are major tourist attractions, and the so-called ‘ecosystem services’ that biodiversity provides like e.g., clean water and food supply, are essential for all types of tourism businesses.

In this webinar, we will explore what biodiversity is and why it is important for the tourism industry. In particular, we will address the following key questions:

– Why is biodiversity important to the tourism industry?
– How does tourism contribute to biodiversity loss?
– How can tourism contribute to the protection of biodiversity?

Our speakers Mr Nikos Petrou, Naturalist, Nature Photographer and Author and Mr Arnau Teixidor-Costa, Programme Officer – Ecosystem Resilience & Spatial Planning at IUCN Med will answer these questions and provide practical examples related to the topic.
