Kumano-Taisha Shrine is full of wonders! A pair of crouching #Komainu dogs guard these gentle stone steps leading to the shrine with over 1200 years of history. The great thatched roof and exquisite sculptures, especially the unique phoenix heads carved on the eastern and western ends of the main hall are all worth seeing. Visit in the morning or evening to capture the moment when the phoenix eyes magically gleam in the sunlight.
#KumanoTaisha Shrine is a 5-minute drive from Akayu Station. Nearby are the famous healing hot springs of #AkayuOnsen, and the best wineries in Northeast Japan.
