Yamagata’s Kaminoyama Castle has a history dating back to 1535, and although it’s surrounded by snow at the moment, come springtime it is a popular spot to enjoy cherry blossom season. There are approximately 80 cherry trees on the grounds in several varieties, and they’re typically at their best around the mid-April timeframe.
