Situated near the summit of Mt Akiha in Shizuoka Prefecture, Akihasan Hongu Akiha Shrine enshrines the deity of fire protection and each year in December, a fire festival is held in dedication. 🔥 Through the unique gold-coloured torii gate, peek at the impressive summit views stretching across the Mikawa mountain range, the Tenryu River and Hamamatsu City in the distance.⛩
Note: The ‘chinowa’ grass purification ring is only placed on the path twice a year, once in summer (June) and again in December. It’s believed that walking through the ring 3 times drawing a figure 8 pattern wards off evil and disease.
