Trip report: Kita Kyushu, Yame, Arita, Takachiho, Miyazaki, Yanagawa

Take a look at these pics taken by Kyushu Journeys clients in May 2018. You can see photos of Kita Kyushu, Yame, Arita, Takachiho, Miyazaki, Yanagawa and Obama.

Big thanks to our lovely clients Lionel and Sue for sending us these great photos and even a video of them being serenaded!

They visited Kita Kyushu and were lucky enough to get the timing exactly right for wisteria blooming at Kawachi Wisteria Garden. It’s always hit and miss (who can predict nature?) but as you can see they were bang on time.

You can probably tell from the video that these guys love their food and drink! You can see them doing a sake (Japanese rice wine) tasting which we arranged for them at an historic sake brewery here on Kyushu. They were lucky enough to be escorted on a free of charge private tour. It’s a great chance to see how Japanese sake is still produced at a traditional brewery, to do some tasting and then pick up a bottle or two of the one you fancy.

You can see we included (at their request) several places serving the highest quality Wagyu beef from Kyushu. They specifically asked us to include in their itinerary a chance to sample the renowned ‘Miyazakigyu’ (highest quality beef produced in the Kyushu prefecture of Miyazaki).

They also requested to see some of Kyushu’s stunning countryside Up. On the video you can see a couple of photos of the picturesque Takachiho Gorge, the beautiful wide open spaces of Aso, and a wonderful sunset in Obama (that’s the town, not the president!).

I told you these guys love their food, right? In addition to all the beef, you can see that they spent time in a teppanyaki restaurant, experienced a traditional Japanese charcoal barbecue and Kyushu’s most famous dish – Ramen noodles!

Not only did they get their timing right for wisteria blooming but also for the famous Arita Pottery Fair. It’s held for one week in May and despite its popularity we arranged for them to stay in a hotel right in the centre of the action!

At the end of the video you can see they took a romantic ride down the river serenaded by the boatman. Beat that Venice!

If you want us to arrange a customised Kyushu itinerary get in touch. Best to contact us before you book your flight so we can discuss the best time of year to come based on the kind of activities you enjoy.
