1960s.JAPAN.HOKKAIDO.Sounkyo.Famous tourist destinations and mountainous areas.

Sounkyo is a gorge located in Kamikawa Town, Hokkaido. Located in Daisetsuzan National Park, there are cliffs of about 24km across the Ishikari River. Sounkyo Onsen, located at the foot of Mt. Kurodake, is one of the largest hot spring towns in Hokkaido with large hotels, and is the center of sightseeing in Sounkyo and Daisetsuzan. It was named by Keigetsu Omachi, who visited in 1921 (Taisho 10). At the entrance of the valley, there is the Soun Takeda River, which is called “Soun Pep” in Ainu language, and it is thought that the character was inspired by this sound.

Daisetsuzan Kurodake
Altitude 1,984m. From the hot spring town of Sounkyo Onsen, you can take the Daisetsuzan Sounkyo / Kurodake Ropeway and lift to the 7th station, and from there you can climb to the top in about an hour. It is easy to climb, but there is still snow until July every year, and the first snow comes in September, so appropriate equipment is required.

Meteor / Galaxy Waterfall
Two waterfalls lined up on the cliff on the left bank of the Ishikari River. The meteor waterfall has a head of 90 meters, an altitude of 1000 meters, and a direct waterfall. The Galactic Waterfall has a height of 104 meters and is a branch waterfall. The meteor waterfall is also called Otaki because of the power of flowing down a tall sudden life as a single thick line, and the galaxy waterfall is elegant because it has a streamline that spreads toward the end and hangs white threads. It is called Metaki. Since these two waterfalls are close to each other and fall, it is also known as Meotodaki. These two waterfalls have been selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan as “Ryusei / Galaxy Waterfalls”. There is a parking lot on the old road from the side of the entrance of the Galactic Tunnel on National Highway No. 39, and you can see the two waterfalls up close. Also, about 20 minutes up the slope behind from the parking lot, there is an observatory of “Soubakudai” where you can see the two waterfalls flowing down at the same time. In Sounkyo, there are other waterfalls of various sizes such as Shiroja Falls and Iwaman Falls.

Obako / Kobako
The beauty of the canyon of Sounkyo is the most wonderful place. You can see up close the columnar joint cliffs with a height of about 200 m formed by the erosion of the welded tuff deposited by the eruption of Mt. Daisetsu about 30,000 years ago by the Ishikari River.

About World Vintage Films

I’m doing a Youtube video of footage taken from the 1910s to the 1980s.
The footage is original and was filmed by my family and my friends while they were traveling.
That’s why most of the footage was shot in Japan.

The first step in the editing process is to convert the video from analog to digital. Then I remove the unnecessary parts and add the original music and subtitles. We don’t want to hide the footage, so we don’t have many subtitles.
Black and white footage may be converted to color.

International and domestic travel around the world, before, during and after the war.
We have over 10,000 films that have not yet been released to the public. We will continue to edit and distribute a few more in the future.

There is a lot of valuable footage. Especially rare are old footage from less developed countries. At that time, the equipment for filming was rare. Pre-war footage of Japan is also valuable. Old cars and trains. There is also footage of airplanes shot from the sky. Towns and markets, and people. And people. Famous tourist spots and natural scenery. The fashion sense is also interesting and different from today. Enjoy the scenery in the old style.

Mostly on 8mm, 16mm, 9.5mm, 35mm, etc. Newer types of video, such as VHS, are not covered.
