5 Must See Spots in Hirado, Japan

Have you ever been to Hirado, Japan? Hirado is only about an hour northwest of Sasebo, Japan and it is one of my absolute FAVORITE spots in Nagasaki Prefecture. With beautiful beaches, amazing 360 degree views, and culturally significant sights Hirado has everything for the perfect daytrip or weekend staycation. Keep in mind Hirado isn’t built-up for tourism like Itoshima is so you won’t find as many cafes, coffee shops, or artisan shops. But if you’re looking for a quiet spot to visit to reconnect with nature and stand in awe of how beautiful Japan is, this is going to be your paradise!

As I mentioned there aren’t a ton of coffee shops or eateries in Hirado so I didn’t mention any in this video, but be sure to look at the times/hours of each place since many are closed on Mondays/Tuesdays. I have pinned one coffee shop below that I have been to and loved, but the hours are definitely limited!

If you haven’t been to Hirado yet, check out my Top 5 places to visit! This is a jam packed day, so you can always split it up over a few visits and really enjoy each spot to the fullest!

1. Hirado Bridge Park:
The parking at this park is free and there are some gorgeous views of the bridge! Pack a picnic and enjoy some outdoor time right when you get to Hirado.

2. Saikyo-ji Temple:
This temple is free and parking is free as well. We did get a few mosquito bites so maybe load up on bug spray before going. Theres plenty to see when you walk around the grounds.

3. Hirado Castle:
Parking was free at the castle and in order to go inside the actual castle itself it is 520yen for an adult. Each floor has fun interactive exhibits and the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend!

4. Kawachi Toge Pass:
Parking and park enterence is free, pack a picnic and enjoy some much needed outdoor time with some of the best views of Hirado!

5. Nishiko Beach:
Parking is also free, though if it gets croweded there is probably paid parking from a local as well. This beach is currently closed, but there were still people there and swimming. We didn’t encounter any jellyfish and the waves were very calm and relaxing. The water is clear and the beach was impeccably clean!

Like I mentioned in the video, Nishiko beach was closed so here are a few other beaches you could check out. The beach was still accessible and there were still locals swimming there, but if you feel more comfortable going somewhere else check out these other places!
