籠祖神社 ~Kagoso Shrine~ Japanese shrine

Japanese shrine

Kagoso Shrine

Sarutahiko is the deity who led the gods to the peak of Takachiho in Hyuga at the time of the descent of the goddess Ninigi.

Shiotsuchi-no-kami is the god of bamboo craftsmanship, salt, and boats, and is mentioned in the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) as the deity who, when Yamasachihiko (Hiyori-no-mikoto) lost the fishhook he had borrowed from his elder brother Umihiko (Hateru-no-mikoto), made a small boat out of woven bamboo baskets. The shrine has been worshipped and enshrined since ancient times.

The Kagoso-jinja Shrine was first established in May 1795 in Kansei 7 (present Kodenma-cho) in the precincts of Kanda Myojin as the ancestor deity of the basket and spinning wheel workers of Kamei-gumi (present Kodenma-cho). We have been holding a grand ritual on November 5th every year.
