Kyoto Travel: Shimogamo Shrine, VR360 5.7K Virtual Reality – Japan Explorer

This is VR 360 5K Japan Explorer. We explore many places in Japan.

It is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto, and has been in existence since before the relocation of the Heian capital, and is officially called Kamomi Oyajinja. The shrine is dedicated to Kamo Taketsununumikoto and Tamayorihime no Mikoto, and is revered as a guardian deity for good luck, prevention of bad luck, safe births, and child-rearing.
The inside of the precincts of the shrine is 124,000 square meters (about three times the size of Tokyo Dome), and in the midst of the city, there are still precious natural features of the ancient mountainous wilderness with lush greenery.
The first day of Kemari (ball games) on January 4, Hina-nagashi (Nagashi) on March 3, the Mitarai ceremony on an Ox day in July, the Natsuetsu Shinto ritual on the eve of the first day of autumn in August, the Mid-Autumn Koto-gen ritual in September, the Oguni-Ashimatsuri (Great Autumn Festival) on October 9, and many other events are held here. It is known as one.

The forest covering the precincts of Shimogamo Shrine is called “Examen Forest”, with about 40 species of trees, ranging in age from 200 to 600 years old, and 4,700 trees over 10 cm in diameter, covering an area of 124,000 square meters, making it a true forest in the city of Kyoto!

With a clear river flowing through the trees, it is easy to see why people say that just walking here will improve your luck. Feel the power to your heart’s content!

There is a cut grass in the middle of the examen forest and the remains of ancient rituals have been restored. There are benches in places, so if you get tired, take a break and listen to the murmuring of the river.

If you walk straight through the examen forest, you will see the entrance to the Shimogamo Shrine, the south entrance torii gate. Before entering the shrine, stop by the Tori-no-Torii to purify yourself.

As you pass through the torii, you will see the “Sazareishi,” which is sung in the song “Kimigayo. This stone is believed to grow with age to become a rock, and is believed to contain the spirit of the gods. It is a power spot that is said to have life force, so let’s pay a visit to it.

A short distance away is Aioi-sha Shrine, which is famous for the god of marriage and various other matchmaking deities. Right next to it is the “Renri no Kengi Ki”, where two trees are connected to one another by a red and white cord, the symbol of marriage.
There is an ema (ema) for marriage, and there is also a dedication ceremony to be performed here.
