Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, which devastated the East Coast of Japan’s Tohoku region.
A decade on the region’s residents are still feeling the effects of this large-scale disaster, but have, at the same time, proudly displayed the resilience and resolution needed to rebuild their lives and communities.
This strength of spirit may also be attributed to the area’s rich samurai history, particularly in the Aizu region of Fukushima, considered to be one of the last strongholds of the samurai at the end of the 19th century.
