Shibu onsen town is a famous hot springs district in the mountains of Nagano, 10 minutes from Snow Monkey Park. Many of the ryokan inns have been around since as early as the 17th century, and the area boasts an amazing number of traditional private onsen. Typically while staying at any of the ryokan, you get a key that opens up the locked doors of the 9 famous baths.
