If you plan on traveling to Japan, Lonely Planet’s book on Japan is the book that I relied on to plan and also figure out things that I couldn’t figure out immediately on the internet while being there:

Traveling to Koyasan from Kyoto was an adventure! I also used Japan Guide’s transportation and orientation page to figure how to go from A to Z!
I suggest really to stay overnight. Being there for just one day is not enough to really appreciate the beauty! Here’s the website for staying at the monasteries:
