Hiking in Japan – Mt. Kongo Osaka's Highest Peak (金剛山)

Mt. Kongo is the highest peak in Osaka Prefecture. It’s a 40-minute drive outside of Osaka City positioned between Osaka, Nara, and Wakayama prefectures. It’s popular with Japanese for its beauty, variety of trails, its ancient shrine and temple, castles ruins, historical battles, and legendary characters.
Climbing Mt. Kongo is a great way to get out of the city, exercise, and experience Japanese nature. The mountain air is clean, the spring water is fresh, and the local soy milk made at the base of the mountain is also delicious.
There are a variety of trails, ranging from easy to hard and offers many different types of scenery. It’s possible to do the hike in half a day or take your time and spend the whole day there. The mountain is open all year long.
