Kushikatsu is one of the most well-known specialties of Osaka. It is a deep-fried dish with various foods placed on a thin skewer and deepened in batter. Varieties of ingredients on offer range from chicken and beef, to vegetables such as pumpkin and asparagus, to the banana and ice cream dessert varieties. Many of Shinsekai’s kushikatsu restaurants are open 24 hours, but only truly become lively when the lights turn on at night.
