This #travel video is a part of the #Japan #roundtrip we have made in October 2019.
We were by the sea. We couldn’t see the sunrise through some clouds on the horizon. Those clouds came closer quickly. It has remained cloudy all day.
Because we were fed up with the noodle soup, Wilfred had promised to bake pancakes. Actually already yesterday, but there was no time for that. So today was the day. They were delicious!
We drove to the train station in Kushiro to activate our railway passes and reserve places on the train to Tokyo. That turned out to be more difficult than expected, not only because of the Japanese precision, but also because of typhoon Hagibis.
#Hagibis appears to be the worst typhoon since 1958. Hagibis will arrive in #Tokyo on Saturday. They expect enormous damage. There will probably not be a train to Tokyo on Sunday. We have reserved seats anyway.
It was less than half an hour’s drive to Kushiro Shitsugen National Park. The round walk of 2.5 km only gave a limited view of the wetlands. You cannot enter the wetlands. We hoped to see cranes. Unfortunately that did not happen. However, we decided not to go to the crane center. We wanted to see them in the wild, otherwise not.
After the hike we drove towards Sapporo. A group of cranes flew above the highway for us.
At 8.30 pm we reached Lake Shikotsu where we spent the night.
