Ryukyu Kingdom Festival in Shuri

In Naha City, Okinawa

On the Culture Day, November 3rd, 2010, Ryukyu Kingdom Festival was held along with many spectacular events and Shuri, an ancient castle town got in great bustle. The road turned to pedestrian from Shuri High school to Torihori Intersection, and many stalls offered foods, sweets, drinks and toys for visitors.

The most magnificent event in this festival is Ryukyu Kingdom Parade. The event revived the parade of Ryukyu King visiting temples to pray a good harvest and the peace and security of the Ryukyu Kingdom. About 300 people wearing costumes of Ryukyu Kingdom era participated the parade.

After the Ryukyu Kingdom Parade, a celebration parade of local authorities in Shuri took place. Some of them performed traditional arts which have been taken over from their anscestors: such as Shishimai (Lion Dance), Hatagshira (Parade of Flags), Eisa Dance and more. At the last of the festival, fireworks at Ryutan Pond grace the festival.
