Konnichiwa! You might be wondering is Japan safe for foreigners right now. This is footage of Asakusa (Tokyo) taken on March 10th, 2020, shortly after Japan entered its shutdown period. Asakusa is one of Tokyo’s most popular tourist spots, home to its famous Kaminarimon and Sensoji Temple. The usually very lively and cheerful Asakusa has been reduced to a shadow of its usual self, void of any noticeable tourist activity.
The shutdown period was to end on March 15th, however as we enter the peak of the crisis, many businesses have been forced to extend their close of business indefinitely, or at least another week or two, until the situation improves.
