Nagoyajo or in English, Nagoya Castle is one of the largest feudal age castles in Japan. It was built in the beginning of Edo Period for one of the main branches of Tokugawa family, the ruling family at that time.
Most of the castle buildings were destroyed in the air raid of 1945 World War 2, including the castle keep and the palace buildings. Reconstruction of some of the structures took place from 1959 until 2018. The castle keep is now closed to the public until further notice.
The park surrounding the castle keep features to circles of moats and impressive walls with corner turrets. The park becomes an attractive hanami spot during the cherry blossom (sakura) season which usually peaks in late March or early April. This park is one of the must-visit-place for sakura lovers.
