Tōji (東寺) is a Shingon Buddhist temple and is one of the many UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kyoto.
The Five-Storey Pagoda is Tōji’s distinctive feature and dates from 1643. At 54.8m it is also the tallest wooden pagoda in Japan.
Tōji has a great autumn illumination event and is photographer-friendly. No problems setting up tripods and plenty of space for everyone to do their photography.
