Morioka, Travel Guide,
1-Day Trip to Morioka, Japan

Known as “the capital of forest and water”, Morioka, the capital of Iwate Prefecture, is a castle town full of antiquated streets nestled amidst beautiful greenery and clear flowing rivers. Alighting from the train at Morioka Station, visitors are at first greeted by the modern face of the city and the hustle and bustle of daily life and commerce.

At the same time, old artforms handed down through the generations, an air of times past and a continued respect and care for nature evident in the people come together to create a nostalgic sense of peace and self-discovery. Come and take a relaxed stroll through the streets of Morioka.

Take a literary and historical journey through the city; a place where the Japanese author Kenji Miyazawa and the infamous outlaw Goemon Ishikawa spent their youth. Enjoy Morioka’s local delicacies: its ‘sandaimen’ (3 famous types of noodles).
