Stunning autumn colors are on full display in Okunikko, north of Tokyo.

The leaves of maples, azaleas, oaks and other trees near Lake Chuzenji have turned brilliant hues of crimson and gold. The area in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, is situated at an elevation of about 1,200 meters.

Tourists, including visitors from Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States, were treated to magnificent views from aboard a boat on the lake.

An official of the Nikko Natural Science Museum said the leaves are changing color at around the same pace as in the past several years. The official said the seasonal foliage can be enjoyed until around early November.

A woman from Ibaraki Prefecture said the foliage had changed color more than she expected, and that she hopes to return again next week.

A man from Indonesia, who lives in Ibaraki Prefecture, said he had wanted to see the autumn leaves for the past two years. He said the scenery was so beautiful it almost brought him to tears.

A visitor from Canada said it is a beautiful place to enjoy the colors and the natural aspects of the lake, and it is wonderful to be there.
