Japan and Peru are making arrangements for Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori to visit Japan for a summit meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae.
Fujimori was inaugurated as president in July this year. She is the eldest daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, who died in 2024.
The Japanese and Peruvian governments are arranging Keiko Fujimori’s first visit to Japan as president in November, after she attends a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in China in the middle of the month.
Japan regards Peru as a strategic partner that shares the same values and principles. Of all Central and South American countries, Peru has the longest diplomatic relations with Tokyo.
Takaichi and Fujimori are expected to exchange views on economic security and stable supplies of energy resources in an effort to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Arrangements are also underway for Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast to visit Japan for a summit meeting with Takaichi at around the same time.
