Deoksugung Palace is one of the “Five Grand Palaces” in Seoul, South Korea and is located not far from Seoul City Hall. It was inhabited by several Korean royalties until the turn of the 20th Century. It was the main palace of the Great Han Empire (1897-1910). The palace was heavily destroyed by the Japanese during the colonial period of Korea and only about one-third of the structures that were standing before the occupation remain today.
