North Korea’s state-run media reported that the country’s Missile Administration test-fired two types of submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles on Wednesday.

The test, overseen by senior officials of the bureau, was carried out in the Sea of Japan, east of the Korean Peninsula.

The Korean Central News Agency said the test-firing was aimed at improving the Navy’s ability to carry out its missions, and that it demonstrated the high reliability and capabilities of North Korea’s war deterrents.

It also claimed that the test had no adverse impact on the security of neighboring countries.

Photos released by the KCNA show missiles flying at low altitudes, but details such as how many were fired and how far they traveled have not been revealed.

North Korean media reported this month a series of launches of intermediate-range strategic missiles and tactical ballistic missiles.

Experts in South Korea say the launches are intended to showcase the North’s possession of a diverse range of missiles.
