Flipside

After almost 15 years in The Town, Flipside burgers will close Oct. 31. Flipside, located along the Lakeshore commercial strip near Lake Merritt, serves burgers, shakes, malts, salads, fries, and more. The menu also includes non-red meat options like a chicken sandwiches and a grilled eggplant sandwich. Co-owner Nimer Musleh told Nosh that the shop is closing due to the high cost of ingredients and rent, adding that “restaurants really can’t raise their prices fast enough to keep up with the cost of goods.” Flipside’s owners also run Main Squeeze Juice Bar, which serves smoothies, juices, acai bowls, and more. “We’re still on the block at Main Squeeze,” Musleh said. Main Squeeze also has a location in downtown Alameda; both Main Squeezes remain open. Flipside, 3401 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland

Los Cocos Salvadoran Restaurant

A longstanding Salvadoran restaurant in East Oakland has closed, we learned from The Oaklandside and Nosh reader, Sarah. Los Cocos was known for authentic Salvadoran pupusas and other dishes. The Oaklandside featured the chef and owner, Rosa Gonzalez, during the pandemic. She shared that her favorite dish, not on the restaurant’s menu, is panes con pavo, a “roasted turkey sandwich served with cabbage, radish, tomatoes, and a special sauce drizzled on top,” which she cooked for a special event. Gonzalez confirmed with Nosh that the brick-and-mortar shop in the Fruitvale has been closed since mid-July due to the building being sold, and that she has no current plans to re-open a restaurant. However, she is planning to sell pupusas from her house to longtime, regular customers. Los Cocos had been in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland for over 35 years. Nabolom Bakery & Pizzeria

Nosh reader Adam and an anonymous reader shared that a 50-year-old Berkeley bakery is closing its doors. Nabolom Bakery’s last day will be Sunday, Oct. 18, according to a sign in the window. Nabolom shuttered 11 years ago, but reopened about six months later in February 2016, adding pizza to the menu. The Elmwood bakery and pizzeria is known for “cinnamon twists, cheese Danishes, challah, multigrain bread, and peanut butter, chocolate chip, and Snickerdoodle cookies, among other goods.” The bakery also has a long history as a collective. The shop is typically open Wednesdays-Sundays, but a sign on the window said that they are open this Friday-Sunday, with Sunday being the last day it will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thank you to reader Adam and an anonymous tipster for letting us know. As Nosh reported in September, the Old Oakland bar expected to close in October. Now, Oeste has set a firm final day of service, Oct. 24. Sliver Pizzeria on Telegraph Avenue has closed. The popular slice shop had been in that location for the last 8 years. Sliver is a local chain using sourdough crust, and known as a part of the Cheeseboard lineage. One Berkeley location, in downtown, remains open. There are also three other locations in the East Bay that are still open: two locations in Oakland (Montclair and North Oakland, and one in Lafayette). Sliver Pizzeria, 2468 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley
