TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A prize program for repeat visitors to Taiwan has attracted 53,304 registrations, with travelers from Japan accounting for the largest number, the Tourism Administration said Thursday.
The first drawing took place Wednesday at noon, with additional drawings to be held each week and winners notified, per CNA. The most registrations came from Japan, followed by Hong Kong and Macau, South Korea, Singapore, and the Philippines.
From January through September, 6.17 million international visitors arrived in Taiwan, according to Tourism Administration data. The figure represented an increase of 1.93% from the same period in 2025.
To encourage visitors to return to Taiwan, the administration opened registration for a program applying to trips from Oct. 10 through March 31, 2027. International independent travelers who visited Taiwan between Jan. 1, 2023, and their registration date can enter a drawing for NT$5,000 (US$156) in consumer credits. Any accompanying traveler meeting the same conditions could receive an additional NT$3,000, CNA reported.
On Wednesday, 4,652 repeat visitors registered for the drawing, along with 896 accompanying travelers.
Taiwan welcomed 8.57 million visitors last year, 42% of whom had visited the country before, the administration said. The number of repeat visitors had returned to levels recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to officials.
