Digital Realty has begun construction on a new 24 MW data center, named KIX15, at its KIX Campus in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.This facility marks Digital RealtyHext{s} fifth data center at the campus, with operations expected to commence by the fourth quarter of 2028.The KIX15 data center is being developed by MC Digital Realty (MCDR), a 50/50 joint venture between Digital Realty and Mitsubishi Corporation. This growth is driven by hyperscale capital outlays, the proliferation of AI workloads, and demand for sovereign cloud. Mordor Intelligence anticipates data center capacity in Japan will increase from 3.57 GW in 2026 to 11.17 GW by 2031.
