Halloween is right around the corner, but for those of us who can’t wait, host towns of U.S. military bases will be hosting an early spooky event to get the festivities started.
It’s that time of year again when ghosts and goblins visit for some sweet treats and Halloween fun. The holiday is fast-approaching and there are many fun activities for kids of all ages.
So, don’t let the fun of the season pass you by and join some Halloween events that your host towns offer!
A list of what to expect around your base follows.
Have a spooky, happy Halloween!
Halloween Festa in Misawa 2026 (near Misawa AB)
a safe, cheerful Halloween atmosphere. There will also be a costume parade and contest, all are welcome to attend from 11:30. Enter for a chance to win fabulous prize for the best costume. Trick-or-treating starts at 3 p.m. with a cue of firecrackers.
Autumn Festival and Halloween in Kitakurihama (near Yokosuka NB)
Visit Negishi Park in Kitakurihama District on Oct. 17 and enjoy a flea market, Halloween costume contest, live performances, dances, food and souvenir booths and various workshops.
Sagami Oono Halloween (near Sagami Housing Area)
Middle school students or younger in their Halloween costumes are eligible to participate in the event. This year, 8,000 youths are expected to join the event. Participants with a participation certificate, will visit the checkpoints and collect stamps for candy. Visit the website for required pre-registration.

Atsugi Mylord Halloween (near NAF Atsugi)
Halloween Kids Parade and mini Halloween music concerts performed by a college band.
Yokota Base side Halloween Party 2026 (near Yokota AB)
Gather at the Friendship Park by 11:15 a.m. (middle school students or younger) and 1:30 p.m. (high school students or older) to join a Halloween costume contest (limited to the first 100 individuals or teams). Winners will receive tickets for a hot springs trip and gifts. Join as one of the 100 dancers who dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” together. Food trucks will sell American-style food and drinks in the event venue.
Zama Ekimae Halloween 2026 (near Camp Zama)
During the event, hop 25 shops around Zama Station and get snacks and candies. There is also fresh vegetable market, live performances, Halloween photo spots, and various games at the event site.
Nagasaki Kids Halloween Party 2026 (near Sasebo NB)
1. Okashi Rally (candy hunting)
When: Oct. 31, 1 – 5 p.m.
Where: Hamanmachi Arcade, Hamamachi, Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture

Ages 12 or younger in their Halloween costumes can participate with parents/guardians in a candy-hunting rally. Kids can get snacks and candy by walking around the area with stamp cards and a map. They can also walk the Red Carpet to show off their Halloween costumes. The participants can rally at 1, 1:30, 2 and 2:30 p.m. Online registration is required with a fee of 800 yen at https://coroshop.thebase.in/.
2. Online Halloween Costume Contest
Ages 15 and younger with parents/guardians nationwide can participate in the Halloween costume contest. Why not take you in a spooky costume with a smartphone and join the online contest?
