David Almansa has won the opening race of the day at the Japanese Grand Prix ahead of championship leader Maximo Quiles, and claimed all 25 points.

During the opening laps at the Motegi circuit, the leading group began to form with the usual riders also involved. Brian Uriarte, Alvaro Carpe, Almansa, David Muñoz, Quiles, Rico Salmela, Ryusei Yamanaka and Matteo Bertelle were all able to pull away from the rest of the pack.

For Uriarte, things turned bad on Lap 8, when he received a double long-lap penalty because KTM Ajo had worked on his bike after the three-minute board was shown. Still, the Spaniard managed to finish fourth today.

After the KTM rider served his penalties, the leading pack got smaller, with Almansa, Carpe, and Quiles then forming the front group.

Quiles put Almansa under pressure during the final laps, but the Intact GP rider managed to hold on to the victory. With this result, Quiles is yet to mathematically secure the Moto3 title, but he will have a better chance to do so in Indonesia next week.Full Results – The Moto3 race of the Japanese Grand PrixPositionRidersTeamsPointsP1David AlmasaIntact GP25P2Maximo QuilesCFMoto Aspar20P3Alvaro CarpeKTM Ajo16P4Brian UriarteKTM Ajo13P5Rico SalmelaKTM Tech311P6Matteo BertelleLEVELUP – MTA10P7David MuñozIntact GP9P8Ryusei YamanakaMSi8P9Joel EstebanLEVELUP – MTA7P10Adrian CrucesCIP Green Power6P11Veda PratamaHonda Team Asia5P12Hakim DanishMSi4P13Adrian FernandezLeopard3P14Valentin PerroneKTM Tech32P15Casey O’GormanSIC581P16Ryota OgiwaraCODE MotorsportsP17Joel KelsoGRYD RacingP18Marco MorelliLeopardP19Jesus RiosSnipers TeamP20Scott OgdenCIP Green PowerP21Zen MitaniHonda Team AsiaP22Ruche MoodleyCODE MotorsportsP23Leo RammerstorferSIC58DNFEddie O’SheaGRYD RacingDNFGuido PiniLeopardDNFKiattisak SinghapongSnipers Team
