Serving More Than Convenience at BWIGachi Sushi Combines Fresh Seafood, Quick Service, and Memorable Experiences for Travelers

Airport dining has long been associated with quick meals and limited options. But at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), one local restaurant is challenging those expectations by offering travelers something they may not anticipate before a flight: fresh, high-quality sushi.
For the team behind Gachi Sushi, the goal is simple—to elevate the airport dining experience while providing travelers with both convenience and exceptional food.
“A lot of people do not expect much from airport food,” said Gachi representative Inez Setiabudi. “We try to bring something that will surprise them—a higher quality of food, convenient service, and a welcoming experience for travelers every day.”
Located inside BWI Airport, Gachi Sushi combines two concepts under one roof. Travelers who have time before boarding can sit down and enjoy a freshly prepared meal, while those rushing to a gate can choose from a variety of grab-and-go options designed for convenience without sacrificing quality.
“We have a dine-in service as well as grab-and-go,” Setiabudi explained. “I like to offer travelers a unique experience—enjoying fresh sushi in an airport setting.”
That flexibility has helped the restaurant appeal to a wide range of passengers. Whether someone is looking for a full meal or a quick snack between flights, Gachi offers options to fit every schedule. Items like salmon onigiri and mango raspberry treats have become popular choices for travelers seeking something light and portable.
Behind the menu is a commitment to quality ingredients and creative offerings. Team members take pride in introducing new menu items and watching customers discover unexpected favorites.
“I’ve been working at Gachi since 2018,” said Rachel, making her an eight-year employee. “I’ve seen the growth of everything and watched how passengers react to new menu items. It’s exciting to see what people enjoy.”
Over the years, those interactions have helped build lasting relationships with customers. Some travelers have been visiting Gachi for more than a decade, creating a sense of familiarity that extends beyond a typical airport restaurant.
“I think we’ve become a family with some of our customers who have been frequenting us since 2012,” Setiabudi shared.
Among the restaurant’s most popular offerings is the Triple Delight Roll, a signature sushi roll featuring salmon, tuna, and yellowtail, topped with avocado and house-made sauces. Other favorites include the Southwest Roll, layered with shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, jalapeños, and specialty sauces, as well as a deluxe sashimi platter made with fresh seafood.
The menu also includes unique items designed to surprise guests. One standout is Frushi—a fruit-inspired sushi dessert featuring strawberries, avocado, and cream cheese wrapped in soy paper.
A connection to Maryland is an important part of the restaurant’s identity. By highlighting fresh seafood and quality ingredients, Gachi helps introduce visitors to one of the region’s most celebrated culinary traditions.
“I feel very fortunate to be trusted by the airport to open our own concept here,” Setiabudi said.
As BWI continues its mission of creating a memorable sense of place for travelers, restaurants like Gachi Sushi play an important role in shaping that experience. Through fresh ingredients, attentive service, and a menu that goes beyond expectations, the restaurant is proving that airport dining can be more than just a stop along the way.
And for travelers looking for one final taste of Maryland before takeoff, the message is simple: “If you’re in Maryland,” Setiabudi said, “try our seafood. It’s always fresh.”
