Demand for overseas travel during the Chuseok holiday was concentrated in short-distance regions such as China and Japan. It is interpreted that short-distance travel destinations with short travel times became popular as the holiday was relatively short and the burden of travel costs increased due to high exchange rates and higher fuel surcharges.
According to the travel industry on the 28th, China accounted for the highest percentage of Hana Tour’s overseas travel reservations during the Chuseok holiday (based on departure from the 23rd to the 27th). Japan followed with 31 percent and Southeast Asia with 27 percent.
The proportion of reservations for short-distance routes such as China, Japan, and Southeast Asia accounted for 90% of the total. The figure is up 7 percentage points from 83 percent during the Chuseok holiday last year.
By departure date, the 24th was the most at 39%, and the 23rd was also at 23%, attracting tourists at the beginning of the holiday.
A similar trend appeared in the Modoo Tour. China, Japan, and Southeast Asia accounted for about 88% of all overseas travel reservations as of the 24th to 27th of this month.
