Cup Noodles has released many weird limited edition flavors over the years, but its newest Halloween stunt might be the most ridiculous one yet. The company has introduced Vampire Noodles, a hot garlic chicken ramen with blood-red noodles, accompanied by a suitably weird piece of merchandise — a $3,999 coffin.
Limited-edition instant noodles will be available exclusively at Walmart in the U.S. starting September 24 for $1.18. The hot water turns the noodles and broth a deep red, giving the whole thing a decidedly vampire-friendly look. Nissin says the color is down to vegetable coloring and not anything particularly sinister. Flavor-wise, it’s a combination of chicken with lots of garlic and heat.
But the noodles are just the beginning. Nissin partnered with Titan Casket to make a real Vampire Noodles coffin, complete with a maroon high-gloss finish, Cup Noodles branding, blood-drip graphics, and black crushed velvet lining the interior. Even the head panel carries the wonderfully unnecessary phrase, “IT’S TO DIE FOR.” And unlike most ridiculous promotional products, this one isn’t just a giveaway: Titan Casket is selling it for $3,999.
Nissin’s been making Halloween ramen weird for years
The casket seems like a logical step for a company that’s never been too scared to make its ramen weird. Nissin has been experimenting with seasonal and festival-themed products over the years, but most of its earlier Halloween efforts were a lot less extreme.
In 2015, Nissin launched a full Halloween lineup in Japan that included Pumpkin Potage Cup Noodles, Pumpkin Potage Cup Noodles Risotto, Black Curry Udon and Squid Ink Yakisoba. The company embraced traditional Halloween colors and themes, with pumpkin, black curry and squid ink making up a season-themed menu.
Two years later, Nissin took an even stranger turn with its “Halloween Trio” that featured garlic-heavy udon, spicy garlic soba and garlic squid-ink yakisoba. The idea was that if everyone ate enough garlic at the Halloween party, no one would want to get near anybody else.
The U.S. side of Cup Noodles has also adopted strange seasonal flavors. Nissin is making Campfire S’mores ramen a thing in 2024, turning chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker into a dessert-style noodle cup. It’s also experimented with flavors like Breakfast, Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese, Pumpkin Spice, and Dill Pickle.
Vampire Noodles aren’t necessarily the weirdest thing Nissin has ever put in a cup compared to those experiments. The difference here is the commitment to the bit. Halloween ramen is not the only thing. It’s blood-red ramen **and a coffin to put yourself in after eating it.
The noodles are available while supplies last, and the casket can be bought directly from Titan Casket. Nissin is also offering another chance for fans to win one by entering a sweepstakes on its Instagram and TikTok accounts.
