Okinawa theme park Junglia posts loss in 1st year

NHK has learned that a new jungle-themed amusement park in Okinawa lost money in its first year of operation.

Junglia Okinawa and its dinosaur attractions opened in July last year amid expectations it would help boost the economy of the southern Japan prefecture. But it attracted only about 2,700 visitors a day on average.

Japan Entertainment Holdings, the privately held parent of the operator, posted a net loss of 17.3 billion yen in the year through June. That’s about 110 million dollars.

The operator itself ran up losses of 8.9 billion yen.

Japan Entertainment Holdings has called a meeting of shareholders on Friday to explain its financial situation.
