The side of Okinawa you don’t always see. 🇯🇵

Join me for a 40-minute walk through Naha, Okinawa, exploring some of the different sides of the city on foot.

We start in Tsuboya, one of Naha’s historic areas, before walking through the city beneath the Yui Rail monorail, along Route 58, past busy streets and through the modern side of Naha. Along the way, we also experience the contrast between the older parts of the city, local streets, urban scenery and the more familiar tourist areas.

Okinawa is famous around the world for its beaches, turquoise water and tropical islands, but Naha offers a very different experience. This is everyday urban Okinawa, where historic neighborhoods, modern buildings, public transportation, local restaurants, shopping streets and busy roads all exist alongside each other.

We’ll walk through parts of Naha including Tsuboya, areas around the Yui Rail, Route 58, Kokusai Street and the city’s riverside streets.

Naha is the capital and largest city of Okinawa Prefecture. Located on the southern part of Okinawa Island, it is the main gateway to the prefecture and a fascinating mix of traditional Okinawan culture and modern Japanese city life.

The city is home to historic areas such as Tsuboya, famous shopping and dining streets such as Kokusai Street, and the Yui Rail, Okinawa’s only railway system.
