Visual kei band NIGHTMARE have released their 34th single, ‘Kyokuyakou’, alongside a music video. The single arrived digitally and on CD on September 16th.
‘Kyokuyakou’ marks the first time three NIGHTMARE members have shared a lyric credit, with vocalist YOMI, guitarist Sakito, and drummer RUKA writing the words together and Sakito composing the music. The lyrics depict what appears to be a final encounter beneath a hazy moon, moving through tears, trembling shadows, a collapsing world, and repeated images of everything coming to an end.
All five members receive songwriting credits across the three-track single. ‘EoM’ features lyrics by YOMI and music by guitarist Hitsugi, while bassist Ni～ya wrote and composed ‘Resolve’.
It follows the March 25th release of NIGHTMARE’s 33rd single, ‘Reach for’, which was the band’s first numbered physical single since ‘Rebel’ in November 2023.
NIGHTMARE TOUR 2026 Kyokuyakou opens at Yokohama BAY HALL on September 19th and comprises 11 shows across nine locations, finishing at EX THEATER ROPPONGI in Tokyo on November 22nd. The band will then perform at Manga Barcelona on December 7th and 8th, with two concerts celebrating the 20th anniversary of DEATH NOTE.

‘Kyokuyakou’ is available on CD in regular and limited editions. The regular edition contains three songs, the title track, ‘EoM’, and ‘Resolve’. The limited edition contains ‘Kyokuyakou’ and ‘EoM’, alongside an M-CARD giving access to the music video and a making-of movie. The M-CARD is randomly supplied in one of six designs. NIGHTMARE are a five-piece visual kei rock band formed in Sendai on January 1st 2000, with YOMI on vocals, HITSUGI and SAKITO on guitar, Ni~ya on bass, and RUKA on drums. After building a following through Japan’s live-house circuit, they made their major debut with ‘-Believe-‘ in August 2003. The band found global cult success in 2006 when ‘the WORLD’ and ‘Alumina’ were used as the first opening and ending themes for the DEATH NOTE anime. NIGHTMARE went on to play their first Nippon Budokan concert in 2007 and established themselves as a long-running force in visual kei. The band paused activities in 2016 and resumed in 2020, returning to the stage at Yokohama Arena before releasing the album ‘NOX:LUX’ in 2022. Their 25th anniversary in 2025 brought their first European tour, their first 47-prefecture tour of Japan, and a Nippon Budokan finale. NIGHTMARE have remained active through 2026, releasing the singles ‘Reach for’ and ‘Kyokuyakou’ and launching another Japan tour. They are also due to perform two shows at Manga Barcelona in December 2026 marking the 20th anniversary of ‘the WORLD’.
