The Tokyo They Don’t Show You ๐ฏ๐ต
๐ฏ๐ต It was my birthday in Tokyo, so I decided to spend the day experiencing the city the way I wanted to โ starting with a traditional Japanese meal at a local restaurant, then heading out to explore.
I hit the batting cages, wandered through Tokyo’s streets, and as night fell, discovered a very different side of the city โ neon lights, gritty neighborhoods, street touts, drunken revelry, and some of the decadence that exists beneath Tokyo’s polished image.
This isn’t a typical Tokyo travel guide. It’s simply a day and night exploring the city, meeting people, and seeing what I could find along the way.

At 4:19… wasn't that a song by the Temptations? Seriously though, I'll be there (Kabukicho) again in about a week and a half for another month, my third visit. I didn't purposely choose Kabukicho (Expedia did!), when looking for a hotel in Shinjuku that wasn't expensive. But I grew to really like the area, and travel to other parts of greater Tokyo too. Wow!… at 13:25, they're still playing that?! I love that, even though there were only three notes of that electronica piece we heard. I usually head back to the hotel by midnight or earlier. Still it's the few notorious 'touts' at night, whom are VERY obviously not Japanese, and who can be rather sketchy. Surprisingly, I didn't see even one in this video! Perhaps the government is finally starting to kick them out.
