Naomi Osaka got knocked out of the US Open on Monday after she lost to Elena Rybakina. But she emphasized in a post-game interview that she wasn’t sad about the outcome of the game.
“I think I am happy I’m taking losses differently,” Osaka, who is a two-time US Open winner, told reporters, per PEOPLE. “I’m trying to learn from them a lot more. Today if I was to say I’m sad, I was sad that I couldn’t push off on my foot. I’m sad I couldn’t do what I set out to do.”
The 28-year-old also opened up about her life and her family’s welfare, adding that she intends to carry on after her US Open exit.
“But for me if I think about my life, my daughter is healthy. Everyone in my family is great. I had an opportunity to play this Slam. I got as far as I could. It’s only up from here I guess,” Osaka, who shares her daughter with rapper Cordae, said.
Osaka turned heads at the 2026 US Open with her eye-catching outfits. She was asked if there were “more surprises” and “looks” she intended to display if she were still in the tournament, PEOPLE reported.
“I think there’s always something. That’s a way that I can have fun and sort of just excite myself also. But I’m honestly not disappointed now,” she explained.

Osaka further reflected on her defeat to Amanda Anisimova in the 2025 US Open semi-final and her reaction to that loss.
“It’s a very strange feeling. And last year I wasn’t that disappointed either,” she revealed.
“Amanda just played really insane,” Osaka said. “Maybe I’m just getting older, but I don’t feel sad,” she added on a lighter note.
Before the commencement of the 2026 US Open, Osaka emphasized that her “main job is to be a mom,” and tennis is her “side hustle.”
“I think people forget my main job is to be a mom. This [tennis] is kind of like my side hustle a little bit. I just happen to be really good at it,” Osaka stated.
