TOKYO – Train suspensions caused by heavy rain affected more than 140,000 people in the Tokyo metropolitan area, railway operators said Monday, urging passengers to check the latest service information.
The Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train line, linking Tokyo and Osaka, is not scheduled to suspend services, but operations may be halted or delayed depending on weather conditions, the operator said.
Major lines in the capital, including the Yamanote loop line, operated with services reduced by around 20 to 30 percent from normal levels in the early morning.
JR East, known as East Japan Railway Co., asked people through social media and its official website to refrain from using stations, citing expected crowding.
