Japan. Police have warned of parental neglect after a person left their seven-year-old son alone for hours during a Mount Fuji climb.

Shizuoka Prefectural Police took the child into protective custody after finding him alone on Mount Fuji on Thursday, local media reported.

According to local media SBS TV, the boy said he was tired during the climb, so his father told him to wait at the sixth station, more than two thousand meters above sea level. Then the father continued climbing with his elder son.

According to TV Asahi, the child was told to wait there for about eight hours with snacks and drinks. He did not have money. Staff at a mountain rest stop informed the police after seeing the child alone. Police contacted the father, who was at the eighth station of Mount Fuji, and handed the child over to him, it is reported.

According to the police, the father apologized for his behavior and admitted negligence. Police warned parents to exercise caution, saying it was dangerous to leave a child alone.
